Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering field and able to work in an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong Excel data analysis and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze production processes to identify opportunities to reduce material usage and lower costs.
  • Track solvent consumption data to optimize cleanup and minimize waste.
  • Use statistical tools and data to establish performance standards and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing activities and visual management improvements.
  • Assist with developing and implementing new manufacturing procedures and safety documentation.
  • Complete Lean Six Sigma Yellow or White Belt certification training.
  • Participate in EHS initiatives to reduce hazards and improve safety.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate exposure risks.
  • Develop digital tools, dashboards, and reports to improve communication and visibility.
  • Create real-time performance dashboards for meetings and decision-making.
  • Organize engineering and production documents using SharePoint and other platforms.
  • Present findings and progress to site leadership and engineering teams.

Job Title: Summer 2027 P2-Production Engineer Intern

Summary: As a Production Engineer Intern, you will play a key role in driving process improvements and identifying energy‑saving opportunities within our Polymers 2 manufacturing area. This hands‑on internship will give you exposure to real‑world chemical manufacturing operations while working alongside experienced engineers and production professionals. You will contribute to projects that improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, enhance equipment reliability, and support the safe production of high‑quality materials. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in capital project implementation, analyze production processes, and recommend innovative solutions that create measurable business impact. This role is ideal for students who enjoy problem‑solving, data analysis, process optimization, and seeing their ideas implemented in a manufacturing environment. By the end of the internship, you will gain valuable experience in process engineering, continuous improvement, project management, and industrial operations while building skills that directly translate to a future engineering career.

Responsibilities

  • Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Participate in safety improvement projects focused on reducing workplace hazards and enhancing employee safety.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams of operators and engineers to identify and eliminate potential exposure risks within the manufacturing environment.
  • Gain hands‑on experience applying EHS principles in a large‑scale chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Digital Solutions & Business Operations Develop tools, dashboards, and reports that improve communication, workforce planning, and operational visibility.
  • Create digital solutions that help production teams manage certifications, staffing needs, and overtime scheduling.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of real‑time performance dashboards for operational meetings and decision‑making.
  • Support the organization and centralization of critical engineering and production documents through SharePoint and other digital platforms.
  • Professional Development & Technical Learning Complete certification training on multiple production processes within the department.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers and production professionals to gain hands‑on manufacturing experience.
  • Document observations, recommendations, and project progress while developing practical engineering problem‑solving skills.
  • Present project findings and recommendations to site leadership and engineering teams.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with strong skills in Excel for data analysis, reporting, and process improvement projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
Program Minimum Qualifications

The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship. The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.

Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00 The base salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography.
