Job summary

Ally Financial is offering an 11-week internship in Technology, designed to bridge academics and real-world business challenges. You will work on software engineering tasks, learn data structures, and gain exposure to Ally's technology pillars while collaborating with cross-functional teams across the country.

Ideal candidates are rising juniors or seniors pursuing a CS degree, with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, and eligibility to work in the US without

Work Schedule

Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. The Work Itself

Interning within Technology means being part of a team that is dedicated to enabling growth, remaining diligent about security, embracing solutions for all lines of business and leveraging data as an asset. Throughout the duration of the 11-week program, you'll have the ability to hone your skills in coding, data structures, and adaptability to name a few.

Projects & Teams

Typically, interns are matched with a specific team and manager in mid-spring. Doing so offers the ability to assign program participants to real-time, business critical needs. You could be on a Software Engineering/Software Development team on one of our technology pillar groups such as…

  • ACT: Ally Corporate Technology
    • Coaches, trains, and helps teams adapt cutting edge technologies that deliver efficiency and value. Amplify tech internally and externally through key channels and empower employees to feel comfortable and confident incorporating technologies to make Ally the best place in the world to deliver tech products.
    • Some examples of previous works/projects throughout multiple teams within ACT include but not limited to:
      • Innovative coding and marketing projects using the AI space
      • Scaled multiple software infrastructures to meet Ally's needs in security size and policy
  • dfsTech: Dealer & Financial Services Technology
    • Delivers innovative technology solutions in support of our Auto and Insurance business units. Ensure our customers and dealers receive an “always on” frictionless experience with leading products and seamless services.
    • Some examples of previous works/projects throughout multiple teams within dfsTech include but not limited to:
      • Provided an efficient solution by creating a notation tool to our front-line call center employees that is seen in production today
  • bcfTech: Banking & Corporate Finance Technology
    • Provide a world-class customer experience through modern cross-channel solutions for Consumer Banking, Auto, & Corporate Finance businesses.
    • Some examples of previous works/projects throughout multiple teams within bcfTech include but not limited to:
      • Assisted with the migration from in-house to cloud
      • Pinpoint system user defect through cross functional collaboration leading to coding solution, seen live in production
  • ETA: Enterprise Technology & Architecture
    • From network services to server management, the ETA team ensures enterprise-wide technology operates smoothly and efficiently to provide an always-on experience. Provides an optimal technology experience for Ally’s external customers and internal stakeholders, with a focus on cloud acceleration/engineering, AI ops, and self-healing technology. ETA skillsets and needs spans multiple career tracks with a high focus on problem-solving, efficiency management, requirements gathering, and cross functional collaboration.
    • Some examples of previous works/projects throughout multiple teams within ETA include but not limited to:
      • Developed an automation system for our internal project management tool to provide digestible key information
      • Assisted with the production of multiple cloud-based products across the Ally ecosystem
Eligibility Window
  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and May 2029
  • Internship Program Timing: May 25 – July 30, 2027 (tentative)
Required Qualifications
  • Rising Junior or Senior (during the time of internship) in a full-time undergraduate program or actively pursuing a Master's program.
  • Majoring in computer science or other relevant field of study required.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates learning agility, analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and technical acumen.
  • Available for the full duration of the internship program.
  • Eligible to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship from the company now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous tech internship experience or relevant tech project work is preferred.
  • Extracurricular activities/leadership experience is preferred (student organizations, volunteering, sports, part-time roles, hackathons, etc.).
  • Exposure to AWS Cloud is preferred.

Base Pay Range

$25.00 - $33.00

An individual's position in the range is determined by the specific role, the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, certification(s), training, and additional qualifications. We review internal pay, the competitive market, and business environment prior to extending an offer.
