Job summary

American Family Insurance invites you to join our summer student internship, a 10 to 14 week program starting mid May and ending in August. You’ll work on impactful projects across Claims Quality Assurance, Knowledge Management, and Training, gaining hands-on experience in analytics, process improvement, and organizational learning.

Qualifications

• Must be in student status at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship, graduating August 2027 or later.
• Must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD.
• Major/program must align with internship role.
• Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with experience using data to identify trends and present findings.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and AI-powered tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude) preferred; familiarity with SQL, data querying, reporting tools, or technical writing is a plus.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience with business writing, technical documentation, research, and information synthesis.

Job description

An internship with our company is a great opportunity to build your skillset and explore your career interests. Our summer student internship is a 10 to 14 week program that starts in mid May and ends in August. During your internship, you’ll work on impactful projects that make a difference at our company, with our customers, and in our communities.

You’ll also gain exposure to different areas of our business and have numerous opportunities for networking and coaching.

Interns may be eligible for a one-time hiring bonus to assist with housing costs depending upon proximity to our company office location.

Compensation Minimum: $25.00
Compensation Maximum: $39.00

As a Claims Operations intern, you will support teams responsible for Claims Quality Assurance, Knowledge Management, and Training by working on projects that help improve claim handling consistency, employee development, and operational effectiveness. Reporting to a Senior Manager within Claims Program Operations, you will analyze data, assist with process improvement initiatives, contribute to training and knowledge resources, and support quality review programs that drive business results. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to insurance claims operations while offering opportunities to collaborate with leaders and gain experience in analytics, project management, and organizational learning.

This is a developmentally focused internship targeting 2028 graduates or later.

Additional Information

• To ensure a strong start, all employees participate in our New Employee Orientation during their first week. This experience is held in person at our Madison, WI Headquarters or one of our AmFam core locations to help you connect with our mission, meet key team members and build relationships that support your growth. At times, sessions may be delivered virtually based on scheduling and availability.
