Job summary

American Family Insurance offers a tenacious actuarial internship designed for students, running 10–14 weeks with a mid-to-late May start and an August end. Interns work on pricing, reserving and modeling projects alongside mentors, gaining exposure to multiple teams and trainings across the business.

The program includes a potential one-time housing bonus and a hybrid schedule based in Madison, WI or Boston, MA, with hands-on tasks and real client impact.

Qualifications

• Must be a current student at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship.
• Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD.
• Major aligns with internship role.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
• Due to the nature of this role, visa sponsorship is not available.
• This role will work a Hybrid schedule based in either Madison, WI or Boston, MA.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and analysis of actuarial data for pricing, reserving, and financial reporting.
• Help develop and maintain actuarial models and tools.
• Conduct analysis on industry trends and regulatory changes.
• Develop an understanding of our business, corporate culture and structure to support your work.
• Contribute creative ideas and strategic approaches in response to changing situations.
• Collaborate with team members to gather and interpret data for multiple projects.
• Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on actuarial methodologies and best practices.

Job description

An actuarial science internship with American Family Insurance Company provides the opportunity to not only learn about the profession and insurance industry but also build your personal skillset and explore your career interests. Our summer student internship is a 10 - 14 week program that starts in mid to late May and ends in August. During your internship, you’ll work on similar projects to our full-time employees that make a difference at our company, with our customers, and in our communities.

Interns may be eligible for a one-time hiring bonus to assist with housing costs depending upon proximity to an American Family office.

Compensation Minimum: $25.00
Compensation Maximum: $39.00

Our actuarial interns also gain exposure to different areas of our business. Our interns will be placed with a particular team, but will also be assigned a mentor

from another team and will have the opportunity to attend trainings from all areas of the business.

Additional Information

• To ensure a strong start, all employees participate in our New Employee Orientation during their first week. This experience is held in person at our Madison, WI Headquarters or one of our AmFam core locations to help you connect with our mission, meet key team members and build relationships that support your growth. At times, sessions may be delivered virtually based on scheduling and availability.
