Job summary

McKenney's is seeking a Co-op engineering student to join our team from day one. You will support estimating and operations, collaborate with vendors, and assist the Field Foreman with scheduling and site logistics management. The program offers practical experience and potential progression under a Project Manager's guidance.

Successful Co-ops gain exposure to managing projects from start to finish and join a company with a history of advancing talent through our internal Co-op program.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Co-op program at an accredited engineering school (Mechanical or Industrial).
  • Must complete three full-time alternating Co-op rotations before graduation.
  • Effective communicator across PMs, drafting, field staff, and vendors.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Able to manage time to meet schedules and project goals.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers in managing mechanical, plumbing, and controls construction from start to finish using Revit, Bluebeam, Procore, and BIM 360.
  • Coordinate with vendors to schedule and procure materials and equipment for construction projects.
  • Update and track project cost expenditures against budgets.
  • Plan with PMs and Field Foreman to meet major schedule milestones with field crews.
  • Assist in the preconstruction phase: gather quotes, perform take-offs, and help assemble estimates.
  • Help obtain permits, submittals, and other required project documentation.
  • Regularly inspect sites for safety, quality, and production compliance.
  • Take on rotating responsibilities and manage priorities.

JOB SUMMARY

As aCo-op, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our projects' success.

Success in this roledependson the Co-op'sinitiative and teamwork. A successful Co-opwill support estimating and operations, collaborate with vendors and subcontractors, and support the Field Foreman with customer needs through scheduling and sitelogisticsmanagement. A top achieving Co-opmay gain the opportunity to manage projects from start to finish under a Project Manager's guidance.

McKenney's has a long history of success in hiring Co-ops and supporting their evolution into industry leaders. Many of our current senior leaders began their journey in the Co-op program.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work alongside Project Managersto manage the mechanical, plumbing, and/orcontrolsconstruction of projects from start to finish-utilizingsoftware, such as Revit, Bluebeam, Procore,andBIM 360.

  • Coordinate with vendors to schedule andprocurematerials and equipmentpurchasesfor construction projects.

  • Regularlyupdate andproject cost expenditures for the project's budgets.

  • Plan with Project Managers and Field Foreman to hit major schedule milestones with the field crews onsite.

  • Assistin the preconstruction phase of projects:gather quotes, perform take-offs, and help assemble estimates.

  • Assistin obtaining necessary permits, submittals, and other documentationfor projects.

  • Regularly survey project sites for adherence to McKenney's safety, quality, and production values.

  • Take onadditionalresponsibilitieseach rotationwhile managing priorities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Candidates must be enrolled in aCo-op program at an accredited engineering school majoring in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree.

  • Candidates must complete atleastthree full-timealternatingCo-op rotations before graduation and should avoid a full courseload while working, which may delay graduation.

  • 1stRotation:Summer2027

  • 2ndRotation: Spring2028

  • 3rdRotation: Fall 2028

  • Effective communicatoracross a diverse group of people (PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.).

  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently as well as within a team.

  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals.

  • Excellent problem-solving ability.

  • Attention to detail while completing multiple or repetitive tasks with a high sense of urgency.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.

  • No orlimited exposure to physical risk; occasional jobsite visitsmayrequire climbingpermanent and temporary stairs/ladders, passenger use of hoists,and navigatingactiveconstructionareas.

  • Light physical effort handling average weight objects up to 50 pounds may berequiredoccasionally.
