McKenney's is seeking a Co-op student to join project teams from day one, with training and tasks that influence project success. You will learn estimating, operations, and site logistics while working under experienced supervision.

The role emphasizes initiative, teamwork, and practical problem-solving as you rotate through project phases and gain exposure to preconstruction, vendor coordination, and on-site activities.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Co-op program at an accredited engineering school (Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or related).
  • Must complete three full-time alternating Co-op rotations before graduation.
  • Strong communication across PMs, drafting, field staff, and fabrication shops.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with a high sense of urgency and accuracy.
  • Capable of collaborating with vendors and subcontractors on project logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Project Managers to oversee mechanical, plumbing, and controls construction across projects from start to finish, using Revit, Bluebeam, Procore, and BIM 360.
  • Coordinate with vendors to schedule and procure materials and equipment for construction projects.
  • Regularly update project cost expenditures against budgets.
  • Plan with PMs and Field Foreman to meet major schedule milestones with field crews onsite.
  • Assist in the preconstruction phase: gather quotes, perform take-offs, and help assemble estimates.
  • Assist in obtaining permits, submittals, and other project documentation.
  • Survey sites for adherence to McKenney’s safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Take on additional responsibilities each rotation while managing priorities.

Overview

As aCo-op, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our projects' success.

Success in this roledependson the Co-op’sinitiative and teamwork. A successful Co-opwill support estimating and operations, collaborate with vendors and subcontractors,andsupport the Field Foreman with customer needs through scheduling and sitelogisticsmanagement. A top achieving Co-opmay gain the opportunity to manage projects from start to finish under a Project Manager’s guidance.

McKenney's has a long history of success in hiring Co-ops and supporting their evolution into industry leaders.Many of our current senior leaders began their journey in the Co-op program.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside Project Managersto manage the mechanical, plumbing, and/orcontrolsconstruction of projects from start to finish—utilizingsoftware, such as Revit, Bluebeam, Procore,andBIM 360.

Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Candidates must be enrolled in aCo-op program at an accredited engineering school majoring in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree.

  • Candidates must complete atleastthree full-timealternatingCo-op rotations before graduation and should avoid a full courseload while working, which may delay graduation.

  • 1stRotation:Spring2027

  • 2ndRotation:Fall2027

  • 3rdRotation: Summer2028

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective communicatoracross a diverse group of people (PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.).

  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently as well as within a team.

  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals.

  • Excellent problem-solving ability.

  • Attention to detail while completing multiple or repetitive tasks with a high sense of urgency.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.

  • No orlimited exposure to physical risk; occasional jobsite visitsmayrequire climbingpermanent and temporary stairs/ladders, passenger use of hoists,and navigatingactiveconstructionareas.

  • Light physical effort handling average weight objects up to 50 pounds may berequiredoccasionally.
