Job summary

Actalent in Virginia Beach, VA, is seeking a SUE Technician responsible for reading and interpreting utility maps to identify underground utilities. The role uses electromagnetic detection equipment to locate and mark subsurface utilities with precision and to document all completed work.

You will read construction plans, sketch marked utilities neatly, uphold health and safety standards, work in a team, coordinate daily activities with the SUE manager, and help manage field supply inventory.

Qualifications

• Experience in subsurface utility engineering, land surveying, and utility locating.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in designating all types of utilities.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Proficiency in using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a plus.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Proficiently read construction plans and utility records.
• Provide neat and clean sketches of utilities marked.
• Understand and adhere to company-mandated health and safety standards.
• Work effectively in a team environment.
• Coordinate daily activities with the SUE manager.
• Help maintain field supply inventory and report inventory status to the supervisor continuously.
• Keep the vehicle clean, free from trash, and ensure it is fueled.
