Job summary

McKim & Creed, Inc. is seeking a SUE Technician II with 3–5 years of experience to assist field crews in locating underground utilities. You will interpret maps, operate groundwater penetration equipment, and work alongside construction teams to ensure safe excavation and accurate record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive experience as a utility locator or SUE Technician.
• Strong knowledge of underground utility systems and the ability to interpret maps and records.
• Familiarity with utility locating equipment, such as electromagnetic locators and ground-penetrating radar.
• Ability to walk outdoors for long periods through all kinds of terrain and adverse conditions (heat, cold, hills, swamps, wildlife & insects, high traffic areas).
• Ability to travel daily and lift 50 pounds; work unsupervised when required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Background checks and pre-employment drug screening are conditions of employment.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utility lines using maps, records, and field resources.
• Operate SUE field equipment including GPR, EM locators, sewer camera, probe rod, and other tools.
• Collaborate with construction crews and contractors to ensure safe excavation and installation of utilities.
• Maintain accurate records of utility locations and updates.
• Conduct inspections to identify potential hazards or issues.
• Assist with maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and work sites.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
