Job summary

Albert Lea Area Schools is seeking a Student Support interpreter/translator to provide translation and interpretation for school communications and family outreach. The role involves collaborating with staff to identify concerns and supporting students and parents to address barriers to engagement.

Responsibilities include working with outside agencies as needed, and occasional home visits to accommodate family schedules.

Qualifications

• Fluent in Karen language required.
• Proficient in English.
• No license required.
• High School Diploma or GED required; 60 credits/AA/AS degree or higher preferred.

Position Information

• Albert Lea High School
• Providingsupport through verbal and written translations or interpretations.
• Work with school staff to identify areas of concern and work with parents and students to address those areas. This may involve home visits at times that are convenient for the family.
• Work with parents and students regarding school engagement issues, motivation, or other barriers to success.
• May work with outside agencies to provide information about needed support for parents and students both here and as needed in the collaborative.
• Work week will be approximately 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, with exact schedule and tasks determined by district student needs.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in Karen Language
• Must be proficient in locally spoken English language.
• No license is required.
• High School Diploma or GED required; 60 semester credits/AA/AS degree or college graduation preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
• Experience interpreting or translating school information is preferred.

Pay Information

• $20/hr-$26//hr (Depending on Experience)
• Earned Sick and Safe Leave (ESST)/Sick Leave
