Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking a Structure Maintainer – Group C (Iron Work) to perform ironwork on subway and elevated structures, including stations and related buildings. The role involves welding, riveting, rigging and repairing steel components, with duties across various NYC-area locations.

Applicants must meet apprenticeship or journeyman experience requirements, possess a NY driver license, and pass a required civil service exam. Residency not required.

Qualifications

• Education and experience requirements include completing a four-year apprenticeship in ironwork or five years of journey-level ironworker experience or equivalent mix of experience and approved education.
• Must pass a civil service exam and be appointed from the eligible list to obtain permanent status.
• Driver license valid in New York State and English language proficiency required.

Responsibilities

• Perform ironwork on subway, surface and elevated structures including stations, enclosures and related buildings.
• Carry out shoring, welding, riveting, rigging, and related metalwork on steel components and railcar bodies.
• Operate light/heavy equipment, load/unload trucks, and maintain safe work practices on or near tracks.
