Job summary

New York City Transit is seeking a Structure Maintainer — Group B (Mason) to perform general masonry work at MTA properties, including laying blocks, tile, and concrete surfaces, and to install sidewalks, gratings, and sewers while adhering to safety rules.

The role requires substantial journey-level masonry experience or equivalent education; you may work various shifts, including nights and weekends, and pass exams for civil service status. Residency not required.

Qualifications

• Two and a half years of journey-level masonry experience or a closely-related trade (e.g., bricklaying, plastering, tile setting).
• Two years experience plus graduation from a trade/technical school with 600 hours in masonry or related trade.
• Two years experience plus an associate degree or higher in masonry or closely-related trade.
• Two years experience plus graduation from a vocational high school with masonry major or a four-year apprenticeship in masonry recognized by authorities.

Responsibilities

• Perform general masonry work: install/repair blocks, tile, sidewalks and floors; install/repair gratings, ducts, manholes, drains and sewers.
• Mix mortar and concrete; load/unload and drive vehicles; work along tracks and perform flagging duties.
• Work outdoors in all weather and meet safety requirements.
