Job summary

T2 Utility Engineers is seeking a dedicated SUE Technician II to join our Palatine, IL field team. You will operate locating and designation equipment, assist with surveys, and document field activities for infrastructure projects.

No prior industry experience is required; training is provided. Travel up to 50% and outdoor work are expected, with a strong emphasis on safety and accurate data collection.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• 4+ years of experience in utility locating or as a SUE Field Tech.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only).
• Ability to obtain a DOT medical card for CMV operation (U.S. only).
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and operate heavy tools.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
• Ability to work outdoors in all climates.
• Must have good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate SUE locating/designating equipment including pipe and cable locators, GPR, and related tools.
• Complete detailed daily reports and field sketches.
• Use tools and equipment to perform utility investigations (jackhammer, pogo-tamper, saw, etc.).
• Drive commercial vehicles (CDL not required).
• Set up safety and traffic controls under supervision of senior staff.
• Assist with survey and data collection tasks for crew activities.
• Perform daily maintenance of equipment and vehicles.

SUE Technician II responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Be skilled in the operation of SUE utility locating and designating equipment, including pipe and cable locators, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and non-destructive vacuum excavation
• Complete detailed accurate daily reports, forms and field sketches, both electronically as well as draft by hand
• Use of tools and equipment to conduct utility investigations, including jackhammer, pogo-tamper, concrete saw, compressor blower, vacuum hose, air lance, and hand tools
• Drive commercial motor vehicles, however a CDL license is not required
• Perform safety set-up and maintenance of traffic operations under direct supervision of senior field staff
• Assist with survey and data collection tasks, supporting overall crew activities
• Perform daily routine maintenance of equipment
• Perform daily basic vehicle maintenance

Tech II Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• 4+ years of experience in the utility locating industry or as a SUE Field Tech
• Ability to read and interpret utility company prints and design plans
• Valid driver's license with good driving record
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only)
• Ability to obtain a DOT medical card for CMV operation (U.S. only)
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical movements necessary to operate heavy tools and equipment
• Ability to work outdoors in all climates
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, by company vehicle or commercial airline, up 2 week continuous stay.
• Work nights and weekends when required to do so
• Must have a good oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
• OSHA Safety certifications are a plus
