Job summary

Tarrant County seeks a Juvenile Detention Position to supervise and support youths in a secure facility. The role focuses on maintaining a safe environment, addressing educational and emotional needs, and ensuring orderly operations within the detention center.

The candidate will provide counseling, enforce rules, and intervene during crises. A Texas driver’s license and relevant certifications are required, with bilingual Spanish being preferred.

Qualifications

• Ninety college hours completed or equivalent.
• Must obtain Texas Juvenile Supervision Officer certification within six months of hire.
• Must have First Aid, CPR, and Non-Violent Restraint with annual renewal of certification.
• Valid Texas Driver's License and proof of automobile liability insurance.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe, secure and positive environment for detainees and meets their educational, emotional, recreational, disciplinary and basic care needs.
• Provides individual and group counseling for detainees.
• Provides discipline when detainees violate rules and may restrain youth who are out of control.
• Intervenes in aggressive and self-injurious behaviors with crisis intervention, counseling, physical and mechanical restraint.
• Supervises grooming, hygienic activities and housekeeping tasks of detained youth.
• Maintains security of residents and facility through regular accounting of population and materials as well as searches of juveniles.
• Conducts facility-wide and personal searches for contraband.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned
