Dallas County is seeking an entry level Juvenile Detention Officer to supervise youths in a 24-hour detention facility. The role involves direct supervision, counseling, and enforcing facility rules to ensure safety and welfare.

Candidate must graduate high school or GED, have a valid Texas driver’s license, and pass a background check and drug testing. First Aid/CPR certification is required within 90 days. Some duties may include med administration and transport, with potential shift changes.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school/GED program.
• Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
• Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 90 days of hire.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Must pass an extensive background investigation.
• Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and random drug/alcohol testing during employment.

Responsabilités

• Provides day-to-day direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour detention facility.
• Provides individual and group counseling to youths to promote responsibilities and alternatives.
• Makes judgments during crisis or dangerous situations and documents actions.
• Discipline youths by enforcing rules and documenting behavior.
• Back-up to staff; may administer medications and transport youths.
• Conducts inspections, rounds and drills including room checks and searches.
• Transports youths to and from appointments; coordinates daily programs and activities.
