Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus six months of youth-facing work experience
• Bachelor's degree preferred in relevant fields
• Detention Officer certification within three months of employment
• CPR and Emergency First Aid training required
• Restraint training within 30 days of employment

Responsibilities

• Supervise and maintain group control during activities of detained juveniles
• Prevent escapes, self-harm, and violent behavior
• Conduct regular visual checks and document them
• Process new juveniles per rules, conduct searches and log belongings
• Provide individual and group counseling to address residents' needs
• Report unusual behavior to Lead Detention Counselor and document actions
• Maintain records and write clear notes and reports
• Participate in shift meetings and brief staff on behavioral expectations
• Perform room searches and contraband control
• Receive, screen, and log calls and oversee visitors
• Provide information to parents and explore procedural improvements
• Organize activities for residents' enjoyment and ensure facility cleanliness
