Job summary

Qualifications

  • Valid Alabama Substitute Teacher Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Previous experience in a classroom setting or working with children is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage a classroom and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to different classroom environments and grade levels.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instructional activities based on the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher.
  • Provide clear instructions and engage students in the learning process.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Maintain a disciplined and structured classroom environment.
  • Enforce school policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during class.
  • Supervise students in the classroom, during breaks and any scheduled activities.
  • Monitor student behavior and address issues according to school policies.
  • Report incidents or concerns to the school administration promptly.
  • Take daily attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
  • Complete any required reports or documentation.
  • Follow additional instructions left by the teacher of record or school administration.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues and school administration.
  • Provide feedback to the teacher of record regarding student progress or issues pertaining to the class.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure continuity of instruction and student support.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Follow the Alabama State Department of Education’s Code of Ethics and school policies.
  • Exhibit professionalism in all interactions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Substitute Teacher

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable

JOB GOAL: Responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher will implement the lesson plans provided by the teacher of record and/or administrative designee in order to ensure a safe and positive learning atmosphere for all students.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Valid Alabama Substitute Teacher Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  3. Previous experience in a classroom setting or working with children is preferred.
  4. Strong communication and organizational skills.
  5. Ability to manage a classroom and maintain a positive learning environment.

REPORTS TO: School Principal

SALARY: Daily rate based on district pay scale for substitute teachers.

Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support
  • Deliver instructional activities based on the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher.

  • Follow the Alabama State Department of Education’s Code of Ethics, Phenix City Board of Education Policy & Procedures and the Faculty & Staff Handbook of the assigned school site.
  • Exhibit professionalism in all interactions and adhere to school policies.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Capacity to manage stressful situations effectively.
Work Schedule
  • On-call basis, depending on the needs of the school.
  • Hours may vary based on the specific assignment.
