Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Valid Alabama Substitute Teacher Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
• Previous experience in a classroom setting or working with children is preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage a classroom and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Flexibility and adaptability to different classroom environments and grade levels.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instructional activities based on the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher.
• Provide clear instructions and engage students in the learning process.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
• Maintain a disciplined and structured classroom environment.
• Enforce school policies and procedures.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during class.
• Supervise students in the classroom, during breaks and any scheduled activities.
• Monitor student behavior and address issues according to school policies.
• Report incidents or concerns to the school administration promptly.
• Take daily attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
• Complete any required reports or documentation.
• Follow additional instructions left by the teacher of record or school administration.
• Communicate effectively with students, colleagues and school administration.
• Provide feedback to the teacher of record regarding student progress or issues pertaining to the class.
• Collaborate with other staff to ensure continuity of instruction and student support.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
• Follow the Alabama State Department of Education’s Code of Ethics and school policies.
• Exhibit professionalism in all interactions.
