Job summary

Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success (RYSS) seeks a Substitute Teacher to provide high-quality instruction when a regular teacher is absent. You will implement lesson plans, supervise students, and maintain continuity of learning across RYSS campuses.

You will adapt lessons for diverse learners, collaborate with SPED staff for IEP accommodations, and use classroom technology to support student achievement and engagement.

Qualifications

• Minimum 60 college hours or a BA/BS degree required.
• Texas teaching certificate preferred; relevant subject competency.
• Strong knowledge of essential content and instructional practices.
• Experience with diverse learners and inclusive strategies.
• Proven classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to integrate instructional technology.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction based on lesson plans provided by the regular teacher or campus leadership.
• Adapt lessons to meet diverse needs, including English learners and students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with special education staff to implement IEP accommodations.
• Utilize technology and culturally relevant materials to engage students.
• Monitor student progress with informal/formal assessments.
• Maintain attendance and classroom records; follow conduct policies.
• Submit end-of-assignment feedback and stay aligned with school goals.

Daily Substitute Rates:
Bachelor's Degreed: $144
TEA Certified*: $160
(*Must be certified in the role they are covering)

Primary Purpose

To provide high-quality instruction and supervision to students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Thesubstitute will implement lesson plans and instructional strategies aligned with the mission and academic goals of RYSS, ensuring continuity of learning and student success.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• A minimum of 60 college hours or Bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate is preferred.
• Demonstrated competency in assigned subject area

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of core academic content and instructional best practices
• Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching and diverse learning needs
• Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to integrate technology into instruction effectively

Experience

• Prior experience teaching or working with students in an educational setting preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

Classroom Management and Organization

• Maintain accurate attendance and student records
• Uphold RYSS's Student Code of Conduct and behavioral expectations
• Ensure student safety and maintain a clean, organized classroom
• Submit a summary report or feedback form at the end of the assignment

Communication

• Maintain professional and respectful communication with students, staff, and families
• Support a collaborative school culture and participate in team meetings as needed

Professional Growth and Development

• Participate in RYSS substitute orientation and ongoing professional development
• Stay informed of school policies, procedures, and instructional initiatives

Other Duties

• Follow all RYSS safety protocols and emergency procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration
