Job summary

Bangor Region YMCA is seeking a Substitute Teacher for our Child Development program serving children aged 12 months to 12 years. The role supports educational, social, and emotional well-being in a values-based setting.

The substitute works with the Director, Managers, and peers to uphold state licensing standards and YMCA core values—honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility—while engaging children in growthful activities.

Qualifications

  • Assist in the supervision of children and activities to support intellectual, physical, and social/emotional growth.
  • Maintain a clean environment and help with meals and snacks.
  • Be a role model reflecting YMCA values of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising children and activities to foster growth.
  • Keep learning environment clean and assist with snacks/meals.

A Bangor Region YMCA Child Development Substitute Teacher is a creative, fun, and inspirational classroom team member who is excited to belong to a high-quality, values-based child development program for children aged 12 months - 12 years that is in full compliance with state licensing regulations, is evidence-based, and impactful.
The substitute staff member is a skilled communicator who builds strong connections with children and adults. They recognize the Bangor Region YMCA child development program as a vital, mission-driven initiative that plays a foundational role in helping young children thrive. This educator consistently models and reinforces the YMCA's core values - honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility; creating a positive and value-based learning environment.
We're looking for a new team member who can:
  • Assist in the supervision of children and activities while encouraging intellectual, physical, and social/emotional growth for every child in a positive and empowering way.
  • Clean environment and materials, prepare snacks and assist with meals and clean up.
  • Be a role model for YMCA philanthropic leadership and organizational and community volunteerism.
  • Be an organized multi-tasker with the ability to work with people and families from all walks of life in a way that reflects YMCA values.
  • Work with the Director, Managers, and peers to elevate the quality of care at the Bangor Region YMCA Child Development Program to help achieve the highest standards set by state and national certifying organizations, the Maine Roads to Quality Professional Network, and the YMCA.
