Job summary

Bangor YMCA is seeking a Lead Teacher for its Bangor Region Child Development Program. You will lead a classroom, supervise children, and help implement evidence-based curricula to support children's growth.

The role emphasizes strong communication with children and adults, teamwork with the management team, and alignment with YMCA core values of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Supervise children, classrooms and activities while fostering intellectual, physical and social/emotional growth.
  • Hands-on classroom leadership with involvement in evidence-based curriculum development and daily lesson planning.
  • Collaborate with Child Development Management and other teachers to elevate program quality to meet state and national standards.

A Bangor Region YMCA Lead Teacher is a creative, fun, and inspirational classroom leader who is excited to belong to a high-quality, values-based program for children of all ages. The Lead Teacher is a great communicator with children and adults, recognizing the Bangor Region YMCA Child Development Program is a critically important, mission-driven program that is key to helping young children succeed in life.
We’re looking for a new team member who can:
  • Supervise children, classrooms, and activities while encouraging intellectual, physical, and social/emotional growth for every child in a positive and empowering way.
  • Bea hands-on classroom leader with deep involvement in evidence-based curriculum development and is responsible for daily lesson planning and activities.
  • Work with the Child Development Management team and fellow teachers to elevate the quality of the YMCA Child Development program to achieve the highest standards set by state and national certifying organizations, the Maine Roads to Quality Professional Development Network, and the YMCA.

All while emphasizing the importance of the YMCA’s core values of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility, of course!

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Child Development/Education or related field.
  • Completes Maine Early Learning Guidelines Training through the Maine Roads to Quality (MRTQ) Professional Development Network within 90 days of hire.
  • Previous experience working with children in an early education setting.
