Job summary

Alliance City Schools is seeking a Substitute Security Officer to coordinate safety and security for district buildings in Alliance, Ohio.   • Refer tardy students to the attendance clerk and report any emergencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of staff records and act with discretion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Board of Education.

Job Description

Position: Substitute Security Officer

Category: Operations, Classified

Reports to: Director of Operations

Description: Coordinate the safety and security functions for the building.

Essential Functions
  • Work closely with the School Administration to implement regular building checks, routine security procedures, and handle security problems that may occur
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Superintendent or the Board of Education
  • Develop and maintains a positive and welcoming climate in the building reception area
  • Assists visitors with directions and secures proper identification
  • Refer tardy students to the attendance clerk
  • Greets everyone entering the building and directs them to the appropriate location according to building procedures
  • Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering the school
  • Report any unauthorized visitors, to the Administration. Notify the building administration, or appropriate personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations
  • Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs.
  • Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and dressing and grooming professionally
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines
  • As requested, patrols and monitors hallways, stairwells, toilet facilities, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff and the security of the facility
  • As requested, assists with supervision of morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students
Qualifications
  • Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violations
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
