South Burlington School District is seeking a Substitute Transportation Van Driver to safely operate a school van and transport students to designated locations. You may assist students with loading and unloading and must maintain a professional appearance and adhere to district safety policies.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a clean Vermont driver's license, and the ability to read maps. CPR/AED and First Aid certificates and a DOT medical card are expected where applicable.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicles safely and in accordance with driving laws; reports problems to supervisor.

  • Keeps vehicle clean and maintained; ensures vehicle hazard-free; cooperates to keep coworkers and students safe.
  • Adheres to safe lifting techniques while performing duties.
  • Maintains regular attendance per work schedule.
  • May assist in other transportation areas as needed.

Position Description

Job Title: Transportation Van Driver

Location: Transportation Services

Job Group: Union, Support Staff

Pay Level : Non-Exempt

Reports To: Transportation Department Supervisor

Summary: Responsible for the safe operation of a school van (less than 16 driver/passengers) while transporting students to assigned locations. May assist students while loading and unloading a vehicle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)

  • Operates vehicles in a safe manner and in keeping with applicable driving laws. Reports problems with vehicle and/or driving hazards to supervisor.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of assigned students while transporting to various locations.
  • Ensures that the vehicle is properly cleaned and maintained; keeps vehicle hazard free, cooperates to keep co-workers and students safe.
  • Works safely within established guidelines for safe lifting techniques.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule.
  • May assist, as necessary, in other areas of transportation.
  • General Responsibilities: Performs all job assignments in a safe and responsible way at all times. Presents a neat, clean, and appropriately dressed manner. The ability to work in a collaborative team environment is essential to the employee's successful job performance. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to workplace diversity, sustainability, and delivering exceptional customer service.

    Education and/or Experience : Must be a high school graduate, or have a General Educational Development Diploma (GED). Previous experience with transporting passengers or light truck delivery desired.

    Licenses and/or Certificates: Valid Vermont Driver’s License with clean record. CDL preferred, but not required. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate (CPR); Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certificate; and First Aid Certification is required. Drivers must qualify for a DOT medical card.

    Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students, staff, and others by demonstrating patience, kindness, and courtesy. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass state driver’s license skill test. Ability to manage students and equipment. Ability to observe student behavior and advise supervisors of concerns and/or issues. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies as they relate to the job responsibilities is essential.
