Responsibilities

• Assess and respond to student illnesses, injuries, and health concerns during the school day.
• Provide first aid and determine when a student needs additional medical care.
• Administer medications and follow individual student health plans in accordance with school procedures.
• Respond to medical emergencies, including activating emergency services when appropriate.
• Document care provided and communicate relevant information to parents or guardians and school staff.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked health office.
• Provide a calm, welcoming environment for students of all ages.

Waterford School seeks a Substitute School Nurse to provide health care support to students in grades PK3–12 when the school nurse is absent. This is an on-call, part-time temporary position during the school year. The Substitute School Nurse responds to student illness and injury, administers medications according to school procedures, and helps students return safely to learning. This role works closely with families, faculty, staff, and school leadership while maintaining the confidentiality of student health information.

Competencies and Skills Desired.

• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Experience working with children or adolescents; school nursing experience preferred.
• Sound clinical judgment and the ability to respond calmly to urgent situations.
• Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
• Ability to protect confidential health information and work collaboratively with the school community.
• Successful completion of Waterford School’s required background screening.
