Job summary

Unknown Borough Library is seeking a Reference Librarian to provide reference and information services to patrons of all ages. The role includes helping patrons locate materials, guiding them to digital resources, and assisting with public computer workstations.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Library Science, experience with library automation systems, and strong communication skills. Some positions may require a valid driver's license and insurance compliance.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
• Experience with personal computers and automated library systems.
• Professional librarian experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and insurability may be required by some Borough programs.

Typical Duties

1. Provide public assistance at the Reference desk and elsewhere as required.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university/college.
2. Experience with personal computers and automated library systems.
3. Experience as a professional librarian preferred.
4. PREFERRED: Ability to have and maintain a valid driver’s license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough’s insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Demonstrated ability in effective communication, both written and oral, with public and co-workers.
2. Familiarity with public library practices and principles.
