Reference Librarian - Deptford Free Public Library

The Deptford Free Public Library in Deptford, NJ seeks a full time Reference Librarian. We are an independent library in Gloucester County. We seek to provide the highest level of library services to our community. To add to our outstanding team, we need a person who will be dedicated to the needs of this community by providing excellent reference services and engaging programs for our adult patrons.

Responsibilities include

• providing reference and readers’ advisory services to patrons
• assisting patrons on the computer and with the use of electronic resources
• developing the library collection
• developing and hosting programs that will be engaging to our adult patrons
• keeping our social media accounts current
• maintaining relationships with community organizations
• attending outreach opportunities in the community
• creating flyers and other public relations publications to advertise our programs
• performing other tasks as needed or assigned

Requirements:

• a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program
• a NJ State Professional Librarian’s Certificate
• 3 years of experience as a professional reference librarian preferred
• strong customer service skills are essential
• ability to maintain effective working relationships with others
• knowledge of print and electronic reference and reader’s advisory tools
• ability to adapt to new technologies
• excellent oral and written communication skills
• The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated librarian who is eager to be of assistance to our patrons

Salary: $50,000 with a generous benefits package as well as vacation, sick, and personal PTO

The selected candidate, if not a New Jersey resident, will be required to establish New Jersey residency within a year of appointment in accordance with the New Jersey First Act.
