Job summary

The Camas School District is seeking a substitute cafeteria worker to join the Nutrition Services team. You will prepare meals, serve students, and help keep the kitchen and service areas clean.

You will follow health, safety, and nutrition standards, handle cashier duties when assigned, and assist with menu planning and inventory. A high school diploma and basic computer skills are required; ServSafe certification preferred or obtainable within 45 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior successful food service experience preferred in a school or public environment.
• Must obtain/maintain a food services health card and ServSafe certification within 45 days.
• Basic computer skills including MS Office and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals for the assigned school, satellite schools, and/or base kitchen.
• Serve meals and replenish offerings during meal services.
• Ensure daily setup and cleanup of kitchen and service areas.
• Assist with menu planning and meal production with the Nutrition Services Director.
• Ensure proper food preparation and portion sizes.
• Follow all health and safety standards in kitchen and service areas.
• Complete inventory, safety, and daily production reports as directed.
• Handle storage and disposal of unused food.

Vary. Hours and locations may differ based on assignment.

Salary

$20.95 per hour.

Purpose

To work as part of a team and participate in the smooth and efficient operations of the school cafeteria, serving students and the school community nutritious meals, maintaining a friendly atmosphere, and meeting all health, safety, and nutrition standards.

To remain active on the substitute list, a candidate must substitute at least once per school year and complete online safety trainings prior to hire and annually for continued employment.

Essential Functions

• Prepare meals for the assigned school, satellite schools, and/or base kitchen.
• Serve meals and replenish food offerings during meal services.
• Ensure the daily set up and cleanup of kitchen and service areas.
• Work with the Nutrition Services Director to plan and prepare menus for the school.
• Ensure proper food preparation and service to include proper portion sizes.
• Ensure for and follow all health and safety standards in the kitchen and service areas.
• Complete necessary inventory reports, safety reports and daily production records as directed.
• Provide for the storage and/or disposal of all food not served.
• Serve as cashier during meal service when assigned.
• When assigned cashier duties, count, record, and deposit all money received.
• Receive and route free and reduced meal applications.
• Track and order foods for daily service.
• Monitor and record all meals served daily. Adjust forecast as necessary to ensure correct amount of food prepared.
• Ensure that kitchen equipment is clean and in good working order.
• Assist with checking in of food shipments.
• Clean kitchens after all meal services to include dishes, floors, and laundry as needed.
• Perform other related duties as needed to ensure the effective operations of the kitchen and school community at large.

Professional Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous successful food service experience, preferably in a school or public environment.
• Must have or acquire a food services health card and maintain it for the duration of employment. Must acquire and have, or acquire within 45 days, ServSafe Certification and maintain both for the duration of employment.
• Basic computer skills and experience, including MS Office products and data entry.
• Suppose the value of an education.
• Maintain all required vaccinations, which may include Hepatitis B, MMR, and depending on the position may need to possess and maintain a current CPR certification in accordance with district policies, Washington Administrative Codes (WACs), Revised Code of Washington (RCWs), and/or Health Department regulations, including but not limited to RCW 43.216.

Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions

• Noisy, crowded environment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to safely bend, lift, push, and pull.
• Must be able to safely operate kitchen equipment, including ovens, ranges, knives, and other potentially dangerous objects.

Work Environment

The job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing in a generally clean and healthy environment.
