SUBSTITUTE COOK – NUTRITION SERVICES

Starting Date: Immediately

Job Summary

The candidate will work under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager and Assistant Kitchen Manager. Specific duties will vary within this framework.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure that customers move through lines and serving areas expeditiously.
  • Be accurate in all PowerLunch transactions.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, healthful environment in the lunchroom area.
  • Assist with food and nutrition related duties as assigned, including:
    • Prepare all food items as directed.
    • Operate kitchen equipment as instructed.
    • Assist other employees in food preparation and baking tasks such as washing utensils, pots, and pans; cleaning tables and carts; storing left‑over food; preparing serving carts; filling salt, pepper and napkin utensils; and performing other assigned duties.
Essential Criteria
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Knowledge of, or desire to learn, basic child nutrition guidelines and requirements.
  • Effective communication with students, staff and parents orally and in writing.
  • Adapt readily to a varied routine in a calm, positive, flexible manner.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality and display ethical behavior.
Qualifications
  • Must possess a WA State Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Must be able to get along with students, co‑workers, and building staff.
Physical Qualifications
  • Capable of carrying approximately 30 lbs for a minimum of 10 feet.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to serve food across the serving area.
  • Ability to perceive sound, have near and far vision, depth perception, provide oral information; manual dexterity to operate keyboards and computers.
Salary and Benefits

Hourly rate: $18.04. Substitutes accrue 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked. After 630 hours, substitutes become benefit eligible for the remainder of the school year. Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Long‑Term Disability through the School Employee Benefits Board.
