Job Description

SUMMARY

To provide the daily cleaning and supplying of classrooms, offices, restrooms, lounges, corridors, and other areas assigned by the daily schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Have thorough understanding of the facility and the method, supplies, and equipment used for each task.
  • Know assigned schedule and be familiar with other schedules in related area and perform those other schedules when necessary.
  • Follow standard cleaning procedures using proper chemicals and equipment to complete the job.
  • Secure the building, close windows, lock doors, turn off lights, air conditioning, or heaters.
  • Participate in training and re‑training sessions as scheduled.
  • Report all unsafe conditions to Head Custodian.
  • Operate all equipment and perform all duties in a safe way to prevent injury to self and others around.
  • Be responsive to the special needs of the principal and staff.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Inspect equipment to see that it is maintained in a clean condition and is in good repair.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED and one year of custodial experience

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
