Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Transmission Substation Specialist in NJ to provide field technical services for maintenance, testing and commissioning of substation equipment up to 100 kV and 500 kV. You will work outside the office 90%+ time at substations and service centers within the local area.

Responsibilities include commissioning equipment, developing test plans, onsite support, and mentoring technicians while improving maintenance practices and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; ABET‑accredited or equivalent.
• Associate degree with 3 years related experience acceptable.
• Minimum 5 years related substation experience if no degree.
• Experience with substation design, maintenance or testing; familiarity with microprocessor based protection and control equipment.
• Experience with SEL products and software, Enoserve RTS and Doble testing.

• Superior written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel within FirstEnergy system including overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace for coworkers and the community.
• Commissioning new substation equipment up to 100 kV prior to release to system operations.
• Support commissioning of equipment up to 500 kV with supervision.
• Develop check-out guides, review test results and isolation plans, energization plans to minimize risk.
• Provide onsite technical support during preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
• Assist in field design to address minor problems encountered during capital projects.
• Audit maintenance paperwork and test results to verify regulatory adequacy.
