Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp in New Jersey seeks an Engineer (Engineer III/IV) to provide field engineering services and technical support for the maintenance, construction, testing and commissioning of substation equipment up to 500 kV.

This role involves 90%+ field work at substations and service centers, travel across the FirstEnergy system, and collaboration with design, planning, protection and operations teams. BS in engineering; FE/PE preferred; 3–5 years experience; strong communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program.
• FE certificate preferred; PE license advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years of engineering experience.
• Experience with substation design, maintenance or testing.
• Knowledge of microprocessor-based protection and control equipment a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace compliant with regulations.
• Commission new transmission substation equipment prior to release.
• Develop checkout guides, review test results and energization plans.
• Provide onsite technical support during maintenance activities.
• Assist in developing and updating maintenance practices.
• Lead field projects and communicate with multi-disciplinary teams.
