Job summary

LS Power in Amarillo, TX, is seeking an entry-level Relay/Substation Technician to support the regulated electric transmission business. Based in Amarillo, you will gain hands-on experience with high-voltage substation equipment, including SF6 breakers, transformers, switches, and control building systems.

You will learn relay technology, substation operations, and safety protocols while assisting experienced technicians and performing installations, testing, and preventive maintenance in a team

Responsibilities

• Assist with Installation and Maintenance: help install and maintain electrical relay systems, protective relays, control systems, and substation equipment.
• Testing and Calibration: support testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of protective relays and substation equipment.
• Read and Interpret Schematics: learn to read relay control drawings and substation diagrams.
• Use of Testing Equipment: operate ohmmeters, voltmeters, meggers, and related equipment.
• Troubleshooting: assist in identifying issues with relay and substation systems.
• Routine Inspections: conduct regular inspections of substation equipment and transmission lines.
• Preventive Maintenance: support maintenance to extend equipment lifespan and prevent failures.
• Documentation: maintain accurate records of tests, calibrations, and inspections.
• Follow Safety Protocols: use PPE and adhere to safety procedures.
• Training and Development: participate in programs to develop relay and substation skills.
• Operate Equipment: operate trucks and equipment as required.
