Job summary

Quanta Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Substation Relay Technician responsible for testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relay systems in electrical substations.

The role requires strong safety leadership, field testing expertise, and the ability to work with SCADA and protection schemes. You will install, test, and maintain relaying equipment, analyze system performance, and support outages with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience with protective relay equipment in substations.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Willingness to travel and work overtime.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology or Engineering.
• Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Promote and model a strong safety culture and accountability.
• Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relaying systems in substations.
• Conduct function testing on relay panels, transformers, breakers and control circuitry.
• Create procedures for testing, commissioning, and maintaining protective devices.
• Develop relay test routines and verify system performance vs design parameters.
• Analyze relay logic, settings, and responses to simulated faults.
• Plan testing and isolation procedures for scheduled outages.
• Install and test communication protocols such as SCADA, GOOSE, Modbus.
