Job summary

Alabama Power in Birmingham is seeking a Protection and Control Test Engineer/Technician to support the Northern Region's substation integration and automation. The role may suit an engineer or technician and focuses on configuring, testing, and maintaining substation equipment and SCADA systems.

Responsibilities include planning projects safely, troubleshooting abnormal conditions, providing field support to design and operations teams, and ensuring timely commissioning and validation of P&C

Qualifications

• Experience commissioning and testing substation SCADA is highly preferred.
• Experience or training in microprocessor (IED) technology is highly preferred.
• Experience or training in serial and ethernet network communications is required.
• Experience performing power system power calculations and measurements is preferred.
• Experience with substation protection and control design or application is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and error check configuration files for substation integration equipment
• Commission and maintain software on substation integration equipment
• Commission, test, and troubleshoot substation integration and SCADA equipment
• Plan and complete projects safely, efficiently, accurately and on schedule
• Respond to abnormal conditionsrelated to substation integration equipment
• Provide technical support to design, operations, maintenance, and construction personnel
