Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Project Engineer to join our Power Delivery team in Missouri. You will help shape substation designs, perform electrical calculations, and coordinate with multi-discipline groups to meet project goals.

You’ll manage scopes, schedules, and budgets while mentoring junior staff and performing QA/QC. This role emphasizes ownership in an employee-owned culture and delivering reliable power infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Foundational expertise in high voltage substation design, including both physical and protection & controls design
• A minimum of 3 years' experience in project execution within the Power Delivery, Substation Sector
• Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure that schedules and budgets are met
• Understanding, developing, and delivering physical substation designs including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material
• Understanding, developing, and delivering protection and control designs including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring
• Prepare electrical calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.)
• Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing
• Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
• Effectively communicate and coordinate project activities with manager, clients, and others as needed
• Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced EIT's and/or Designers.
• Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators or Designers, or BIM Technicians as needed
• Perform other duties as needed
