Job summary

SEnergy is seeking an analytical, self-starting engineer to lead the design and coordination of electrical substation projects from conceptual design through construction from 4kV to 345kV. The role is based in Boerne, TX, with potential overnight travel to project sites.

The successful candidate will perform design calculations, prepare drawings and BOMs, and lead technical efforts while managing schedules and client communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering required.
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • PE certification is a plus.
  • 3–5 years of design engineering experience for electric substations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design calculations and prepare estimates using industry tools.
  • Create electrical drawings, one-line and three-line diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Develop BOMs and material specifications for substations.
  • Prepare project schedules and budgets; coordinate tasks with staff.
  • Maintain project documentation and client communications.
  • Ensure design quality and CAD standards.

Job description

Seeking analytical, self-starter with proven success in design and project coordination for electrical substations.

This position entails detail engineering and design of substation projects from conceptual design through construction from 4kV to 345kV.

The successful candidate will design, schedule resources, and lead technical efforts for electrical substation projects.

The position is located at our Boerne office and may require some overnight travel to project sites.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform design calculations, estimates and statistics using industry tools and methods.
  • Perform engineering tasks creating drawings, visual aids and engineering studies for substation projects including one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, specifications, conduit, and cable sizing/routing.
  • Understanding of DC/AC circuits, logic design and power systems.
  • Understand and apply the National Electrical Safety Code to the design process.
  • Develop bill of materials based on the design criteria.
  • Assist in preparing project schedules and budgets for timely completion.
  • Coordinate and assign tasks to construction or administrative staff.
  • Maintain good project documentation, including calculations, telephone conversations, design decisions, rationale and filing copies of all pertinent information.
  • Attend project meetings as necessary with Clients to coordinate design and address any issues.
  • Prepare project status reports and deliver to Client in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Quality control project work to maintain the expected standards for project deliverables, including CAD work ensuring accurate scales, proper spelling, proper formatting, and completeness.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with key Client personnel with whom project work is interfaced with.
  • Stay abreast with changing technology, work planning and design methodologies associated with Substation design.
  • Represent SEnergy and Client when meeting with other stakeholders including property owners, other engineering firms or construction services.
  • Ensure adherence to Client standards to develop detailed scope and engineering plans for projects. Partner with subject matter experts to prepare scope of work.
  • Perform administrative duties as required from time to time including mailings, office supply and documentation reproductions.
  • Complete timesheets daily with project summaries in the invoicing standard format. Prepare by deadline, accurate and complete invoice letter write-ups for project work in accordance with the Company’s standard format.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
  • EIT Certification or ability to obtain EIT Certification within 6 months of employment.
  • PE a plus!
EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in physical design engineering for electric substations
SKILLS:
  • Possess strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills and able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Strong (effective) written and verbal communication skills, exceptional computer skills, with emphasis in project management, spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Strong skills of time management, organizational and multi-tasking.
PHYSICAL:
  • This position requires the ability to listen and hear, good eyesight, sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands and arms.
