Job summary

ENERCON’s Substation Group seeks a Substation Designer – Physical Designer in multiple U.S. locations, including Houston, Orlando, and Remote. The role may be filled as a Drafter or Designer based on qualifications and experience.

You will draft substation layouts, collaborate with engineers, and provide field support to ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable energy delivery. This position requires travel and a background in electrical substations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Substation drafting and/or designing.
• Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE.
• Must be self-driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables.
• Must be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetings.

Responsibilities

• Substation Design & Drafting: Develop or draft electric substation drawings, General Arrangements, Elevations, Conduit Plans/Details, Grounding Plans/Details, Foundation Plans, Lightning Protection plans, and control building layouts.
• Engineering Analysis & Calculations: Perform basic substation design calculations (lightning protection, voltage drop, conduit fill).
• Collaboration & Quality Assurance: Ensure accurate and on-time delivery of electrical design meeting standards.
• Field Support: Provide on-site technical support during construction and commissioning.
