Job summary

Kimley-Horn's Overland Park, KS office is seeking a Substation Physical Design Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the Power Delivery team. This on-site role supports HV and MV substation projects for utilities, renewable energy, and industrial clients.

Responsibilities include developing physical layouts, grounding and lightning protection studies, BOM reviews, and leading project sections while coordinating with protection, civil, structural, and electrical disciplines.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant engineering experience in substation design.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation and Inventor.
• PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform conceptual and detailed HV/MV substation physical design including layouts and grounding.
• Develop equipment arrangements, one-line/three-line diagrams, and BOMs.
• Lead technical reviews and coordinate with protection, civil, structural, and electrical teams.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers while supporting client meetings.
