Job summary

Kimley-Horn's Overland Park, Kansas office is seeking a Substation Physical Design Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the Power Delivery team. This is not a remote position.

The successful candidate will design and execute high-voltage and medium-voltage substations for utilities, renewables, and industrial clients, coordinating closely with multiple engineering disciplines. The role offers growth, leadership opportunities, and a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in substation physical design and related engineering.
• PE license preferred or obtainable within 12 months.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation and Inventor for layout and drawings.
• Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection studies, and lighting studies.

Responsibilities

• Perform conceptual and detailed high- and medium-voltage substation physical and electrical design, including layout and drawings.
• Develop and review bills of materials for substation projects.
• Plan, lead and participate in client meetings related to physical design.
• Coordinate with protection, civil, structural and electrical teams to meet project objectives.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
