Job summary

Black & Veatch Family of Companies seeks a Substation Helper to support high voltage substation wiring, installation, testing, and maintenance. You will work with a team to lay out, install, and repair electrical systems in generating stations and substations, following project plans and safety standards.

The role requires hands-on use of hand and power tools, the ability to read diagrams, and collaboration with crews to ensure zero injuries and high-quality outcomes on site.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years working experience as a Substation Helper or equivalent combination of education and experience in an industrial construction setting.
• Strong working knowledge of high voltage electrical and civil industry standards, electrical substation components, and relevant fabrication/erection processes.
• Must have all necessary tools and be capable of reading plans and diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Install electrical conduits, cable, and duct banks with hand and power tools.
• Test continuity of circuits for safety and compatibility using basic instruments.
• Operate equipment and assist with crane operations in live substations up to 500,000 volts as required.
• Follow safety rules, use stop-work authority when needed, and participate in pre-job safety planning.
• Read and interpret plans/diagrams and assist in layout, installation, and repair of substation wiring.
