Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group is seeking a Substation Engineering Intern to join our team in Cleveland, OH. You will work with experienced engineers and designers on projects delivering reliable electrical power to utilities, industrial facilities, and infrastructure clients.

You will gain hands-on exposure to substation engineering, design, drafting, and field support, with mentorship and real-world project experience shaping your early career in power systems.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Interest in power systems, electrical infrastructure and substation engineering.
• Basic understanding of electrical principles and power distribution concepts.
• Experience with AutoCAD or drafting software preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with the development and review of substation engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, reports, and technical documentation.
• Support electrical design activities related to transmission and distribution substations.
• Help create and revise one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, equipment layouts, conduit plans, grounding drawings, and construction packages.
• Perform engineering calculations under the guidance of experienced engineers.
• Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction support activities when project opportunities allow.
• Learn and apply engineering standards, codes, and industry best practices.
