Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Substation Engineer to support the Data Center Infrastructure Team in San Diego, with additional locations across the U.S. You will help design electrical infrastructure for large-scale data center campuses, including substations, transmission interconnections, and associated site electrical systems.

You will collaborate across business lines to support feasibility, planning, and early-stage design decisions, working with senior engineers and project leads to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.
• 3+ years of substation design experience.
• Experience supporting physical or protection & control design.
• Understanding of utility substation systems and equipment.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate site evaluation, planning, and infrastructure integration.
• Support proposal development with technical input.
• Assist substation projects through planning, design, procurement, and construction.
• Coordinate with internal teams, utilities, and vendors.
• Attend site visits to validate design assumptions.
• Develop project schedules, deliverables, and budgets.
• Create one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Address grounding, lightning protection, and SCADA basics.
• Prepare BOMs, general arrangements, and cable plans.
• Ensure QA/QC and accurate technical documentation.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and project leads.
