Job summary

WSP is seeking a Substation Engineer to support our Data Center Infrastructure Team in San Diego, CA, with consideration also given to Kansas City, Seattle, New York, Portland, Houston, and St. Louis locations.

You will contribute to planning and design of substations, transmission interconnections, and site electrical infrastructure, performing calculations, coordinating with utilities and vendors, and supporting fast-paced data center projects from feasibility through commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.
• Minimum 3+ years of substation design experience.
• Experience with protection & control design and utility systems.
• Strong ability to perform engineering calculations and read technical docs.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; able to work with moderate supervision.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate site evaluation, planning, and infrastructure integration with multiple teams.
• Contribute to proposal development with technical input and scope definitions.
• Lead substation design tasks including diagrams, layouts, grounding, and basic SCADA.
• Support equipment specs, vendor coordination, and QA/QC checks.
• Assist in project schedules, deliverables, and budgets; travel as needed.
