Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Substation Electrical Engineer for our San Diego, CA office. The role involves assisting with design, calculations, and documentation for utility-scale substations and power distribution projects.

Under supervision, you will learn to apply IEEE/NESC standards and contribute to site surveys, engineering analyses, and preparation of procurement packages. Travel may be required as project needs arise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Familiarity with IEEE, NESC/NEC regulations and design standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for engineering audiences.

Responsibilities

• Assist with data collection and analysis for substation components and procurement pricing.
• Support the design of single-line and three-line diagrams and bus arrangements.
• Provide entry-level engineering support on sizing, wiring, and power distribution.
• Prepare documentation using drawings and field notes.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and project procedures.
• Develop electrical calculations for loads, sizing, voltage drop, and grounding under supervision.
• Travel as required by project needs.
