Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Substation Engineer to support its Data Center Infrastructure Team in San Diego, CA, with consideration for other U.S. locations.

The role focuses on delivering electrical infrastructure for large-scale data center campuses, involving planning, engineering, and coordination across the full project lifecycle. You will collaborate with senior engineers, contribute to feasibility studies, substation design, and interconnections, and help ensure safety, quality, and schedule

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• At least 3 years in substation design.
• Experience with physical or protection & control design.
• Understanding of utility substation systems and equipment.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations and read technical docs.
• Strong communication and teamwork; able to work with moderate supervision.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support multidisciplinary coordination for site evaluation, planning, and infrastructure integration.
• Contribute to proposal development with technical input.
• Assist in substation projects across planning, design, procurement, and construction.
• Coordinate with internal teams, utilities, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Participate in site visits and field activities.
• Develop project schedules, deliverables, and budgets.
• Prepare design deliverables such as diagrams and layouts.
• Ensure QA/QC procedures and compliance.
