Metric Geo is seeking a Substation Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia, to support the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects. The role involves developing safe and reliable substation designs for utility and industrial clients while supporting engineering projects from concept to construction.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and over 3 years of relevant experience. Familiarity with industry standards and principles of substation design is essential.

Job description

We are seeking a Substation Engineer to support the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects from concept through construction. Working under the guidance of licensed engineers and senior technical staff, you will contribute to the development of safe, reliable, and cost-effective substation designs for utility and industrial clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Support substation engineering projects from concept through completion under the direction of senior engineers or a licensed Professional Engineer
• Develop substation design packages including physical layouts, protection and control, grounding, lightning, lighting, and auxiliary systems
• Produce engineering calculations including insulation coordination, AC/DC systems, battery sizing, cable sizing, voltage drop, and conduit fill
• Prepare design deliverables such as sketches, equipment specifications, bills of materials, and cost estimates in line with IEEE, NESC, and utility standards
• Support field inspections, design reviews, and QA/QC processes, assisting in resolving technical and project delivery issues
• Assist with project coordination including schedule support, data collection, client communication, and proposal preparation activities

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related ABET-accredited discipline
• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Understanding of substation design principles and applicable industry standards (IEEE, NESC, etc.)
