Job summary

Alliant Energy is seeking a skilled technician to perform general installation and maintenance of substation and related equipment across multiple facilities in Iowa. The role may be filled at Apprentice or Journey level, depending on qualifications.

The position requires CDL and DOT compliance, with potential overtime during emergencies. The incumbent will install, troubleshoot and maintain high voltage equipment, read blueprints, and follow safety and operating standards.

Qualifications

• 2 years formal education in electrical and electronic theory and fundamentals equivalent to completion of CIE Course 1B.
• 4 years technical experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of metering, electrical and electronic plant and substation equipment.
• Related training through an accredited electrical apprenticeship program may substitute for the two years formal education.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, maintain and troubleshoot substation equipment.
• Perform line switching for maintenance and construction activities.
• Prepare and maintain equipment test records and purchase authorizations.
• Train fellow employees in related activities.
• Report for duty free of drugs and alcohol; be prepared for overtime emergencies.
