Job summary

HDR is seeking a student engineer in Minnesota to contribute to substation physical design, create/modify drawings, and assist with equipment procurement under supervision.

You will perform AC/DC system calculations, apply standard engineering tools, and gain real-world experience on power projects while developing essential communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Prefer local candidates and GPA 3.0+; 2 years completed toward degree.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on the physical design of electrical substations.
  • Create/modify substation drawings and assist with procurement.
  • Perform AC/DC system calculations based on load.
  • Apply industry standard engineering tools and procedures.
  • Support project team under supervision.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Focus on the Physical design of electrical substations.
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a Project Lead or Project Manager.
  • Create/modify substation physical drawings including creating markups, specification of major equipment, and assisting with procurement of equipment.
  • Apply industry standard engineering tools, techniques and procedures.
  • Complete AC/DC System calculations based on current/future load.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills; including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Preference given to local candidates
