Job summary

HDR is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern in a Substation Physical role in Minnesota. You will work under a Project Lead to design substations, create drawings, perform calculations, and assist with procurement on real-world projects.

You'll gain industry exposure, mentorship, and a practical understanding of power grid engineering while advancing your studies and career goals.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • GPA 3.0+ preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on the physical design of electrical substations.
  • Perform assignments under supervision of Project Lead/Manager.
  • Create/modify substation physical drawings and assist with procurement.
  • Apply industry standard engineering tools and procedures.
  • Complete AC/DC system calculations based on loads.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Substation Physical Electrical Engineering Intern, we’ll count on you to:

  • Focus on the Physical design of electrical substations.
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a Project Lead or Project Manager.
  • Create/modify substation physical drawings including creating markups, specification of major equipment, and assisting with procurement of equipment.
  • Apply industry standard engineering tools, techniques and procedures.
  • Complete AC/DC System calculations based on current/future load.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills; including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
