Job summary

HDR seeks an intern for Substation Electrical Engineering in Minnesota. You will gain real-world experience on exciting substations projects, focusing on P&C engineering, wiring diagrams, and schematic creation under supervision of a PE/PM.

Preferred candidates are engineering students with GPA 3.0+, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and basic MS Office proficiency. Local candidates are encouraged to apply for a full‑time temporary role in Saint Louis Park.

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving is essential.
  • Basic MS Office skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with substation design and Protection & Controls engineering.
  • Create/modify substation wiring diagrams and control schematics per project scope.
  • Perform AC/DC system calculations based on current/future load.
  • Complete assignments under supervision of a professional engineer or project manager.
  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Substation Electrical Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Offer real-world experience on exciting projects
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional engineer or Project Manager
  • Focus on Protection & Controls (P&C) engineering within substation design.
  • Create/modify substation wiring diagrams and control schematics according to project scope.
  • Complete AC/DC system calculations based on current/future load.
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
