Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Substation Physical Designer in Denver to perform planning, design and drafting for complex substation projects. You will create plan layouts, sections, grounds, and electrical plans, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team and international partners.

You will ensure adherence to design standards, perform QA/QC, mentor junior staff, and participate in project marketing efforts while targeting on-time, within-budget delivery and high-quality drawings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and 7 years related experience required.
• Associate Degree and 8 years related experience required.
• 9 years progressive detailing and design experience required.
• Advanced understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel.
• Advanced ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
• Advanced knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers and Designers in a multi-discipline team.

Responsibilities

• Perform substation plan layouts and other physical substation components.
• Produce design drawings within scope, budget and schedule.
• QA/QC of project drawings and revisions.
• Train and mentor junior drafting staff.
• Support subcontracted firms and Burns & McDonnell international affiliates.
• Participate in client development and marketing meetings.
